Telmo Rodríquez is a Spanish winery founded in 1994. It has earned a worldwide reputation as a pioneer championing Spanish winemaking, a travelling oenologist and "driving wine-maker". This reputation comes above all from the fact that he travels to wine regions to produce single-harvest wines using only the native varieties of the given area. He also devotes special care to reviving forgotten vineyards. The Telmo Rodríquez brand reflects an immense love of wine and fine winemaking craft.
The Telmo Rodríguez Dehesa Gago wine is an authentic red wine from one of Spain's most continental wine regions – D.O. Toro, where extreme conditions and a traditional approach create wines with pronounced character and freshness. This style represents an honest expression of the local terroir and the intense flavour profile of the Tinta de Toro variety, without excessive oak influence, with an emphasis on pure fruit and a balanced structure.
Grape variety: 100% Tinta de Toro, a local clone of the Tempranillo variety, characterised by robust fruitiness and good structure.
Vineyard: The grapes come from traditional, low-density vineyards trained in the "gobelet" system (without wire trellising) in the villages of Argujillo, Villabuena and Morales in D.O. Toro, where Tertiary sandstone sediments alternate with Quaternary gravel terraces on poor, low-organic soils.
Production and ageing: After hand-harvesting, fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and cement tanks, followed by ageing for about 6 months without oak in stainless steel tanks, which preserves the purity of the fruit aromas and the fresh character of the wine.
Taste and aroma: In the glass, Dehesa Gago presents an intense ruby-red to dark colour with aromas of black and red fruit, such as cherries and blackberries, complemented by delicate floral and spicy notes. On the palate, the wine is lively, fruity and easy to drink, with good acidity and soft tannins that provide a pleasant balance and a smooth finish.
Food pairing: Recommended serving temperature 16–18 °C. It pairs beautifully with grilled meat, lamb, stews, piquant cheeses such as Tres Lechces, or roast beef, where it highlights the fruit intensity and harmony of flavours.
