Rosé Wine offers over 20 fresh Spanish rosé wines from the regions D.O. Navarra, D.O.C. Rioja, D.O. Sierras de Málaga and Cataluňa. Most of the wines in the category are dry, and an unusual semi-sparkling rosé wine, Gramona Ca la Mar Mustillant Rosé from D.O. Penedès, is also available. The producers represented include Chivite, Enate, F. Schatz and Celler Bellaserra. Rosé wine is created by brief contact between the juice and dark grape skins, which gives it its delicate colour and flavour. It is drunk young, ideally within one to two years of the harvest.

How to find your way around this category

Most of the wines in the category are dry and light, suited to summer dining. They differ mainly in region of origin and grape variety - D.O. Navarra offers classic dry rosés, D.O. Sierras de Málaga a fruitier style, and the exception is the semi-sparkling Gramona Ca la Mar Mustillant Rosé from D.O. Penedès with its delicate bubbles.

Rosé wine works as a versatile choice for a lighter summer menu, where red wine would be too heavy and white not pronounced enough.

How rosé wine is made

Rosé wine is made from dark grapes, but the juice stays in contact with the skins only briefly - usually a few hours to a day, unlike red wine, where maceration lasts weeks. The length of contact determines the intensity of both the colour and the flavour, from very pale to deeper salmon shades.

The colour of a rosé wine is not an indicator of quality or sweetness - it depends purely on the grape variety and the length of contact with the skins.

Storage and serving

It is served well chilled, at around 8-10 °C. Store it somewhere dark and cool, with the bottle lying down. Use an opened bottle within 2-3 days, otherwise the wine loses its freshness.

Frequently asked questions

How is rosé wine made?
From dark grapes, where the juice stays in brief contact with the skins - usually just a few hours to a day, which gives it a delicate pink colour without acquiring the tannins of a red wine.
How long should rosé wine be stored?

What is a semi-sparkling rosé wine?

What is the ideal serving temperature for rosé wine?
Around 8-10 °C, that is well chilled, much like white wine.
What does rosé wine go with?
