Telmo Rodríguez, Corriente, D.O. Rioja, red wine, 0.75l
Corriente in Spanish means ordinary, everyday.
In the context of wine, this traditionally referred to a wine intended for everyday drinking, simple, honest and natural, without any attempt at ostentation or excessive ageing.
In the case of the wine Telmo Rodríguez Corriente, the name refers to the historical style of Rioja from the early 20th century. A wine that was part of everyday life, drunk with meals, with a joyful, authentic character.
A delicious red wine of cherry colour, made from the Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano varieties.
After opening, herbal notes can be detected in the wine, which gradually give way to an aroma of red fruit complemented by refreshing notes of black pepper and bay leaf and a sweet hint of liquorice. In the background, delicate notes of coffee can be detected. On the palate it is fresh, lightly dry, yet at the same time juicy, with a light body.

Telmo Rodríquez is a Spanish winery founded in 1994. It has a worldwide reputation as a pioneer supporting Spanish winemaking, a travelling oenologist and a "driving wine-maker". He earned this reputation mainly because he travels to individual wine regions to make wines from a single harvest using only the original varieties of the given region. In addition, he pays special attention to restoring forgotten vineyards. The Telmo Rodríquez brand embodies an immense love for wine and fine winemaking craft.
The wine is an honest and approachable red wine from D.O.Ca. Rioja Alavesa, which represents a tribute to the traditional "corriente" - the everyday wine, as the common, natural wines of the early 20th century were called in this region. It is a wine without excessive show, one that faithfully reflects the local terroir, culture and everyday enjoyment of wine.
Grape variety: Tempranillo, Graciano and Garnacha, three classic red varieties of Rioja, which together form a harmonious and approachable cuvée.
Vineyard: The grapes come from organically farmed vineyards in Lanciego de Álava and Viñaspre, with traditional bush vines and hand harvesting, which supports healthy ripening and the expression of the terroir.
Production and ageing: The wines ferment with native yeasts in cement tanks and then age for 10–12 months in a combination of older oak barrels and foudres of various sizes, which gives the wine depth, structure and delicate woody nuances without excessive vanilla.
Taste and aroma: In the glass, Corriente shows a red fruit profile with notes of ripe cherries, raspberries and red berries, complemented by delicate spicy and herbal elements, a natural mineral structure and pleasant tannins, which make the wine balanced, fresh and easy to drink.
Food pairing: Recommended serving temperature 16–18 °C. It is ideal with tapas, grilled meat, lamb, rice and spicier dishes or mature cheeses such as Zamorano, Manchego Añejo or Prado Lambón, where it highlights the fruitiness and delicate structure.
