Moraza, Moraza, D.O. Rioja, red wine, 0.75l

The village of San Vicente de la Sonsierra is located in the Rioja Alta area, high above the Ebro river, at the foot of the Cantabrian and Toloño mountain ranges. The altitude ranges between 450 and 650 metres, and the climate is dry and cool, influenced by the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Cantabrian seas. This helps keep the grapes free of disease, and the vineyards have good air circulation between the vines. The soil is made up of clay and limestone.  Like the other wines from Moraza, this Tempranillo also does not age in barrels but ferments naturally in concrete tanks with only minimal intervention throughout the process. The resulting wine is beautifully clean and natural. The wine is fresh and fruity with a mild spicy base. Juicy, yet with a pleasant tannic structure and a long finish full of red fruit.  This Tempranillo pairs well with red meats as well as poultry and spicy dishes. Unlike many modern Riojas, which are adapted to the international market, Bodegas Moraza uses purely traditional methods, thanks to which it produces a fresh, less oaky wine with authentic character. Instead of blending grapes from different vineyards to create the familiar taste of conventional Rioja, these wines are the result of the complexity of the terroir.
