The wine Luis Cañas Viñas Viejas Blanco comes from old vineyards in the heart of Rioja Alavesa and is the result of careful work with the local varieties Viura and Malvasía. It aged for several months on the lees in oak barrels and concrete tanks, which gives it elegance, depth and an expression of terroir.
On the nose it offers notes of white fruit, citrus, flowers and subtle toast, and on the palate it is dry, fresh, with a creamy texture and a mineral finish.

The wine is named after the old vine bushes (viñas viejas) from which the grapes come. It is a white wine with a pronounced terroir character and complexity, reflecting the combination of old vineyards, local varieties and precise cellar work. The first cuvée under this name was created as a tribute to the region's traditional white wines.

The vineyards are more than 55 years old, planted on stony, limestone-clay soils at an altitude of 450–620m. These vineyards lie in the highest and poorest plots of Rioja Alavesa, which the Cañas family has cultivated for generations.
Production and ageing: The grapes are hand-picked into small crates and then undergo double selection. Fermentation takes place partly in new and used 500-litre French barrels (around 70%), the rest in concrete tanks, amphorae or stainless steel. The wine ages on fine lees for 5–6 months with regular stirring (bâtonnage), to gain complexity and a creamy texture.
Taste and aroma: The wine has a golden colour with greenish highlights. On the nose, white fruit, citrus, subtle flowers, nuts and a touch of pastry dominate. On the palate it is full, fresh, with a balanced acidity, a slightly buttery impression and a mineral finish. Ageing on the lees brings depth and elegance.
Food pairing: It goes wonderfully with seafood, fish, white meat, risotto, delicate cheeses and pâtés. Excellent with Mediterranean cuisine too. We recommend serving at a temperature of 8–10°C.
