Grape variety: made predominantly from the Tempranillo variety, which is typical and the most widespread in the Rioja region. Sometimes small proportions of other varieties may appear in the blend, such as Viura (white wine) or Malvasía.

Vineyard and origin: The Bodegas Luis Cañas winery is located in the village of Villabuena de Álava, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, one of the most prestigious parts of the Spanish Rioja wine region. The vineyards lie at an altitude of 450 to 600 metres above sea level on clay-limestone soils, which provide ideal conditions for growing quality grapes. The winery takes a sustainable approach: it uses ecological methods, limits chemical use, and places emphasis on manual work in the vineyard.

Production and ageing: It does not age in oak barrels, or only very briefly. It is made using the traditional carbonic maceration method, which is typical for young, fruity wines with minimal skin contact. This technique promotes the development of a pronounced aromatic profile, soft tannins and freshness.

Taste and aroma: Both the taste and aroma are dominated by red berry fruit, especially raspberries, cherries and strawberries. Floral notes also appear (e.g. violets) and delicate nuances of banana or liquorice, typical of wines made using the carbonic maceration method. On the palate the wine is soft, juicy, lightly spicy and harmonious, with pleasant freshness and a smooth finish. Ideal for those looking for an uncomplicated and easy-drinking red wine.

Food pairing: Thanks to its fruity nature and delicate structure, Luis Cañas Joven pairs wonderfully with medium-intensity dishes. It goes excellently with tapas, grilled meat, roast chicken, paella, vegetable dishes, pasta or Iberian charcuterie and semi-hard cheeses.
