This wine is a true rarity. Only a little under 1,800 bottles are produced each year.
It has a deep purple-violet colour and a flavour that is powerful and rich yet elegant, thanks to silky tannins, pronounced acidity and a long mineral-fruity finish.
The aromatic profile develops gradually. From ripe red and black fruit, such as plums and mulberries, through balsamic tones to nuances of herbs, like rosemary, thyme and bay leaf, which elegantly blend with spices in the form of pepper and nutmeg.

The number “60” in the name of the wine Amaren 60 Graciano from Bodegas Amaren refers to the age of the vineyards this exceptional wine comes from. Specifically, these are vineyards at least 60 years old, considered to have an extraordinary history, character and low yield. The designation “60” thus symbolises exclusivity, a focus on terroir and historical depth. Each bottle offers a unique and authentic expression of these old vines.
Awards: James Suckling and Guía Peñín rated the 2019 vintage 94 points.
Grape variety: 100% Graciano. The oldest selected vines within Bodegas Amaren, whose ancient vines produce highly concentrated grapes with exceptional complexity and depth.
This wine is a rarity. Only a little under 1,800 bottles are produced each year.
Vineyard: This exceptional cuvée comes from two neighbouring vineyards in the village of Leza (Rioja Alavesa), namely El Pomal and Calvarios. Both vineyards lie at an altitude of about 550 m; their steep, north-to-south facing slopes with a slight eastward tilt allow for perfectly slow ripening and a pronounced concentration of aromas.
Production and ageing: The grapes are hand-picked into small boxes, followed by a double selection. Fermentation takes place in open concrete “bocoy” vats. The wine then ages for 11–12 months, part in a concrete vat (700 l) and part in a bocoy of French oak (600 l).
Taste and aroma: The colour is deep, purple to violet. The aromatic profile unfolds in stages. Ripe red and black fruit such as plums and mulberries, complemented by balsamic tones, herbs like rosemary, thyme and bay leaf, spices in the form of pepper and nutmeg. On the palate it is powerful and rich, with silky tannins, pronounced acidity and a long mineral-fruity finish.
Food pairing: Thanks to its fullness, lively acidity, gentle spiciness and pronounced tannic structure, it pairs beautifully with rich, aromatic dishes. It is ideal with roasted or braised lamb, game, and even a steak of well-aged beef. It also goes very well with grilled meats with a herb marinade or with mushroom sauces and mature cheeses. It is recommended to serve it at 16–18°C, ideally after brief decanting, to allow its rich aromatic layers to fully open up.
