Telmo Rodríguez, Gaba do Xil, Godello, D.O. Valdeorras, white wine, 0.75l
Gaba do Xil o Barreiro is a fresh and mineral white wine from D.O. Valdeorras made from the Godello variety grown in the unique O Barreiro vineyard in Larouco, where the clay-rich soil gives the wine a pronounced terroir character and a long, balanced profile.
The wine ferments with indigenous yeasts and ages for several months on fine lees, thanks to which it retains pure fruitiness, fresh acidity and a complex structure, while the aroma shows tones of white fruit, herbs and delicate flowers.
This wine is an ideal choice for those looking for an authentic, terroir-driven white wine that pairs perfectly with seafood, grilled fish, sushi or herb salads, while offering the quality and character of the Galicia region.

Telmo Rodríguez is a Spanish winery founded in 1994. Around the world it has a reputation as a pioneer championing Spanish winemaking, a travelling oenologist and a "driving winemaker". He earned this reputation above all by travelling to individual wine regions to make single-harvest wines using only the native varieties of each area. He also pays special attention to restoring forgotten vineyards. The Telmo Rodríguez brand reflects an immense love of wine and fine winemaking craft.
The wine is a fresh and expressive white wine that conveys the authentic character of the D.O. Valdeorras terroir in north-western Spain. It captures the harmony between the Atlantic and continental influences on the climate and the character of the variety, giving it both fresh fruitiness and mineral depth. The grapes come exclusively from the O Barreiro vineyard, which is carefully farmed and hand-harvested, representing an honest and approachable white wine with the character of the region.
Grape variety: 100% Godello, a traditional white variety from north-western Spain, valued for its freshness, fruitiness and mineral expression.
Vineyard: The grapes come from the O Barreiro vineyards in the village of Larouco, where the soils are more clayey and rich in silica, with thinner textures, which helps the wine achieve a long and balanced profile. The harvest is done by hand in small crates to best preserve the quality of the berries.
Production and ageing: After picking, the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and then ages for several months on fine lees (sur lie), which gives the wine greater texture, complexity and harmony of flavours without losing its fresh character.
Taste and aroma: The wine has a pale yellow colour and the aroma offers fresh lemon and tropical fruit tones, subtle floral nuances and mineral touches reflecting the Valdeorras terroir. On the palate the wine is fresh, smooth and well balanced, with pronounced mineral acidity and an elegant finish.
Food pairing: The recommended serving temperature is 8–12 °C. It works wonderfully as an aperitif, but also with fresh seafood, light fish dishes, salads, vegetable dishes and mild cheeses, where it highlights its freshness, fruitiness and mineral character.
Awards: For the 2023 vintage the wine received 91–92 points from renowned critics (e.g. Robert Parker and Luis Gutiérrez), confirming its quality in this style of fresh white wine.
