Suertes del Marqués, Las Suertes, D.O. Valle de la Orotava, red wine, 0.75l
The red wine Suertes del Marqués Las Suertes is produced by a small family winery in the Valle de la Orotava region, located on the island of Tenerife.
Las Suertes is made from the Listán Negro variety, a rare indigenous variety found only on the Canary Islands. The grapes come from a small plot planted with vines over 100 years old at an altitude of 500 metres above sea level, on volcanic rock beneath the original vegetation cover.
It offers a very complex and layered aromatic profile.

Grape variety:
The wine Las Suertes is made from 100% Listán Negro, a rare indigenous variety from Tenerife, found exclusively on the Canary Islands, known for its ability to express the local terroir.
Vineyard:
The grapes come from a small plot in the Valle de La Orotava area, planted with ungrafted vines more than 100 years old at an altitude of around 500 m. The vineyards grow on volcanic subsoil beneath the original vegetation cover, and all work, from soil preparation to harvest, is done by hand. The vines are trained using the traditional "cordón trenzado" method, which is labour-intensive but contributes to the high quality of the grapes.
Ageing and production:
After traditional foot-treading of the grapes, alcoholic fermentation takes place in open concrete vessels using the vineyard's own yeasts. The wine then ages on the lees for one year in 500-litre French oak barrels, giving it complexity and a fine structure.
Taste and aroma:
It offers a very complex and layered aromatic profile, strongly influenced by the volcanic terroir of the Valle de La Orotava region. On the nose there are delicate notes of red fruit, such as cherries, wild strawberries and raspberries, which gradually give way to deeper, earthier tones. Also notable is a minerality reminiscent of wet stone or ash, typical of volcanic subsoil, complemented by hints of dried herbs, light smoke and gentle spice. On the palate the wine is dry, elegant and very structured, with lively acidity and firm yet refined tannins. Thanks to ageing on the lees in oak barrels, the wine also gains a gentle creaminess and depth, without losing its freshness and energy. Overall it feels very authentic, terroir-driven and serious, with great potential for further development in the bottle.
Tasting notes and pairing:
Ideally served at a temperature of 16–18 °C, ideally after a short decanting, which helps open up its complex aromatics. Thanks to its pronounced minerality, structure and elegance, it goes wonderfully with roasted and grilled red meat, game, lamb or dishes with mushrooms and herbs, where it can highlight their depth of flavour. It also works excellently in combination with mature cheeses or Mediterranean cuisine.
