Orben, Malpuesto, D.O. Rioja, red wine, 0.75l

An excellent-quality red wine from the La Rioja region, at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria mountains. It is made from the Tempranillo grape, grown on vineyards that were established in 1931. They are currently among the oldest vineyards in the region. Malpuesto translates as "badly placed" - the vines were planted irregularly. The soil is sandy and very poor in nutrients, so production of this wine is very limited - only 5,000 bottles. The quality, however, is first-class. Traditional methods are followed in production, the harvest is manual, as is the subsequent selection of the best grapes. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels for 15 months.  The wine has a bright cherry colour and a subtly spiced aroma of ripe red fruit and blueberries. On the palate the wine is complex and fruity. Acidity gives it freshness. Grape variety: 100% Tempranillo Serve at a temperature of between 16-18 °C. It pairs well with roasted lamb, grilled red meats, stewed meats, matured cheeses, jamón Ibérico de Bellota.
