Oxer Bastegieta, Ahari, D.O.C. Rioja, red wine, 0.75l

This wine is a blend of 60% Tempranillo, 30% Graciano and 10% Viura. It is a harvest from various vineyards located at an altitude of about 600 m and dating back to around 1940. Their soil is sandy with a high proportion of silica. The main aim with this wine was to show that, despite the rustic character of the Graciano variety, it can also produce very elegant wines. After fermentation in 500-litre French oak barrels and concrete eggs, the wine aged for a further 13 months in 500-litre used French oak barrels. Ahari is a very expressive wine, its fruity aroma blending beautifully with the aroma of the oak barrel. On the palate there is a pleasant acidity and smooth tannins. We recommend serving at a temperature of 14-16 °C. It is best enjoyed with dark meat and game. Ahari is a reference to a red imp from Basque mythology, who used to go around at night scaring people in their homes, purely for fun. The drawing on the front label is an ode to Pablo Picasso's painting depicting Guernica. The back label carries a quote from Pablo Picasso: "Everything you can imagine is real."
