Alzania Gardacho Crianza is an elegant red wine from D.O. Navarra, created as a harmonious cuvée of the Tempranillo, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties.
The grapes come from vineyards at an altitude of approximately 500–550 m above sea level, where a continental climate with warm days and cool nights supports slow ripening, preserving freshness and full aromatic potential.
The wine ages for approximately 12 months in oak barrels, which gives it a complex structure, gently integrated woody notes and velvety tannins.
The aroma is dominated by ripe red and dark fruit, delicate spicy and vanilla nuances, while on the palate it is full, harmonious, with pleasant acidity and a long, elegant finish, ideal with roasted meat, grilled dishes or stronger cheeses.
Grape variety:
A classic blend cuvée of three varieties – 50% Tempranillo, 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives the wine a combination of fruity finesse, depth and tannin structure with balanced acidity.
Vineyard:
Alzania owns vineyards in the areas of Los Arcos and Arróniz, the Tierra Estella subzone in D.O. Navarra, where the soils are typically clay-limestone (arcillo-calcáreas) and support quality ripening of grapes for red wines. There is a continental climate here with sunny days and cooler nights, which helps even ripening and intense aroma development.
The name "Gardacho" refers to a local folk legend about a snake coiling around the vine, which underlines the connection of the wine to local tradition.
Production and ageing:
After hand harvesting and fermentation, the wine matures for 12 months in barrique barrels made of French and American oak, which contributes to its complexity, gently integrated woody notes and ripe texture.
Aroma and taste:
The aroma is dominated by the character of Mediterranean herbs, complemented by notes of ripe red and dark fruit, such as elderberries and plums, together with light vanilla and cedar nuances from the oak ageing. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and full, with well-balanced tannins, pleasant acidity and a rich fruity expression that leads into a long, delicate finish with notes of wood and spice.
Food pairing:
Thanks to its structure and complex profile, it pairs well with grilled beef, lamb, game dishes or Manchego-type cheeses. The recommended serving temperature is 16–18°C.
