Grape variety: 85% Tempranillo 15% Merlot

Vineyard: The wine comes from the D.O. Ribera del Duero wine region, specifically from high-altitude vineyards around the villages of La Aguilera, Quintana del Pidio and Gumiel de Mercado, at altitudes of up to 950 metres. Most of the vineyards are around 25 years old, and yields are carefully controlled so the grapes achieve the greatest possible concentration. The soils are mostly limestone and stony, which helps ensure optimal ripening and preserve freshness.

Production and ageing: The grapes are hand-harvested into small crates and undergo double selection. First whole bunches are selected, then individual berries. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by ageing for 10 months in oak barrels, of which 60% French oak and 40% American oak. Part of the Merlot ages in new barrels, giving the wine subtle notes of spice and vanilla. Before release, the wine ages for a further minimum of 6 months in the bottle.

Taste and aroma: Captivating with a bright, cherry-red colour. The nose is fresh and intense, dominated by red fruit such as raspberries, morello cherries and strawberries, complemented by notes of vanilla, delicate spice and a light hint of balsamic from the oak barrel. On the palate the wine is juicy, round and well balanced, with fine tannin, an elegant structure and a medium-length, fruity finish.

Food pairing: This wine is ideal with white meat dishes, grilled vegetables, pasta with delicate sauces, but it also pairs well with softer cheeses such as camembert or brie. Thanks to its fruitiness and smoothness, it is also a great choice for everyday drinking, especially in the warmer months.
