Alzania El Retorno is a red wine from the D.O. Navarra region, made from 100% Garnacha, whose grapes come from mixed vineyards with 80-year-old olive trees.
The wine offers a rich, rounded and fresh taste with harmoniously integrated tannins and pleasant acidity, while the aroma features notes of ripe red and dark fruit, delicate spicy nuances and floral accents.
After ageing in oak barrels it gains structure, complexity and a long elegant finish, making it an ideal accompaniment to roasted red meats, game, grilled dishes or stronger cheeses.
Grape variety:
Alzania El Retorno is a red wine made from 100% Garnacha (Grenache), one of the key red varieties of the Navarra region. Garnacha gives the wine its typical fruity intensity, fine tannins and a full yet harmonious structure.
Vineyard:
The grapes for this wine come from older mixed vineyards, where bush vines of Garnacha grow side by side with 80-year-old olive trees, creating a unique agroecological structure and giving the wine a distinctive terroir. The vineyards lie at a higher altitude of around 600 m above sea level on soils rich in clay-limestone minerals with a trace of gypsum, which contributes to the depth and mineral component of the resulting wine.
Production and ageing:
The grapes are picked by hand and then undergo fermentation in small wooden vats, after which malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels made of French and American oak. The wine ages for a total of approximately 10 months in oak barrels and then a further approximately 3 months in large French oak vats, which gives it a complex structure and a balanced harmony of fruity and oak notes.
Aroma and taste:
The aroma is pronounced and expressive, with a harmonious combination of aromas of ripe red fruit, floral nuances and delicate spicy touches, which intertwine with notes of wood and minerality. On the palate the wine is round, full, rich and at the same time fresh, with well-integrated tannins, pleasant acidity and a long finish, which leaves an impression of balance and depth.
Food pairing:
Thanks to its fullness and complexity, El Retorno is an excellent companion to game, roasted red meats, grilled specialities, venison or strong cheeses. The recommended serving temperature is 16–18°C, which allows the full aromatic potential of the wine to show.
