Suertes del Marqués, Esquilon, D.O. Valle de la Orotava, red wine, 0.75l
Esquilon is a red wine from Tenerife, where the traditional Listán Negro and Tintilla varieties come together with the unique terroir of the volcanic vineyards of the Suertes del Marqués winery.
Thanks to ageing in oak barrels the wine gains subtle spiciness and a complex structure, while fruity and floral notes, including hints of lavender, add freshness and sophistication.
Bottled unfiltered, it retains its full aromatic profile and velvety texture, making it a wine suited to both immediate enjoyment and further ageing, ideal for lovers of Spanish red wines seeking a combination of tradition, authenticity and pronounced character.

Grape variety:
Esquilon is a red wine made from a blend of 70% Listán Negro and 30% Tintilla, traditional native varieties of Tenerife. Listán Negro gives the wine structure, fruity character and elegance, while Tintilla adds depth, dark fruit notes and subtle spiciness.
Vineyard:
The grapes come from the ungrafted vineyards of the Suertes del Marqués winery, situated in the Valle de La Orotava. The vineyards, at altitudes of 300–750 m above sea level, are trained using the traditional "cordón trenzado" method, in which the main branches of the vine are braided by hand, supporting low yields and high-quality grapes. The soil is volcanic, rich in minerals, giving the wine its typical terroir character. Ungrafted vineyards are very rare in Europe, since most varieties were grafted after the phylloxera epidemic.
Production:
Fermentation takes place spontaneously using native yeasts, without pumping-over and with minimal use of sulphur. The wine is bottled unfiltered, which preserves its full aromatic profile and texture. Ageing takes place in oak barrels for approximately 9-12 months, bringing subtle notes of wood, spice and gentle complexity, without overpowering the character of the Listán Negro and Tintilla.
Aroma and taste:
Esquilon is a medium-full wine with lively acidity and velvety tannins. The nose is dominated by floral notes, purple fruit (cherries, raspberries) and subtle spicy nuances, with some tasters also detecting hints of lavender. On the palate the fruit combines with the mineral notes of the volcanic soil and a light touch of wood, creating a harmonious, complex and elegant profile with a long finish.
Food pairing:
Thanks to its elegance and balance, Esquilon pairs beautifully with red meat, roasts, game, steaks, and also with charcuterie or more pronounced cheeses. It is recommended to serve it at 15 °C, so as to fully bring out its aromatics and the fine structure of its tannins.
