D.O.Jumilla/La Calera del Escaramujo 0.75l
La Calera del Escaramujo from Bodega Cerrón is a unique wine for all lovers of quality red wines seeking both elegance and authenticity.
It comes from organically farmed, high-altitude vineyards in D.O. Jumilla, where the Monastrell variety predominates, so every bottle offers a true picture of this rugged, sun-drenched terroir.
In the glass it captivates with a deep ruby colour, aromas of ripe dark fruit with subtle spicy and mineral notes, and on the palate the wine is full, harmonious and has a long, smooth finish.

La Calera del Escaramujo comes from the small family winery Bodega Cerrón, whose tradition dates back to 1895 and which is located in the village of Fuente-Álamo in the Jumilla area in south-eastern Spain. The main idea behind this wine is to revive old, abandoned vineyards and express the unique terroir of the region, where the vines grow at high altitude on very demanding, stony, limestone soils.
Awards:
98 points - The Wine Advocate (Robert Parker, Luis Gutiérrez)
Vineyard:
The grapes come from the unique, pre-phylloxera "La Calera" vineyard, which lies at around 960 m above sea level and was abandoned for many years owing to its steepness and difficult access. Restoration of the vineyard began in 2013 and the first harvest was not until 2017. The soil is limestone and geologically very rich, which is reflected in the elegance and complexity of the wine.
Grape variety:
The wine is made predominantly from Monastrell, 95% (with around 5% of the local variety Blanquilla sometimes added), a characteristic red variety of south-eastern Spain, prized for its fullness and intensity.
Production process:
The winemakers follow organic and biodynamic practices without herbicides or pesticides, and the wine ages for approximately 14–20 months in used oak barrels before being bottled without fining or filtration, so as to preserve its full structure and character.
Taste and aroma:
The wine shows a deep ruby to garnet colour with hints of violet tones. The aroma is dominated by a rich complex of ripe dark fruit (blackberries, plums), complemented by Mediterranean herbs, subtle floral notes and a touch of spice or minerality. On the palate it is elegant and well structured, with balanced acidity, soft tannins and a long, dry, slightly saline finish that reflects the influence of the soil and the altitude of the vineyards.
Food pairing:
It is best served at around 16–18 °C and pairs beautifully with richer dishes such as grilled red meats, game, herb-based dishes, as well as mature cheeses or traditional Mediterranean specialities.
