At Roca, Sileo, D.O. Montsant, red wine, 0.75l

Sileo from the Companyia Vitícola Sileo winery is a delicious red wine from the D.O. Montsant region in Catalonia, representing an authentic expression of the local terroir. It comes from grapes grown on the steep slopes of this region and places emphasis on purity of fruit expression, freshness and balance, typical of the mountainous character of Montsant.

Grape variety:
In terms of varietal composition, it is a blend of approximately 80% Garnacha Tinta and 20% Samsó (Cariñena), the traditional varieties of the region, which give the wine a combination of fruitiness, structure and subtle spiciness.

Vineyard:
The grapes come from vineyards situated at the higher altitudes of Montsant, roughly between 250–700 m above sea level, where there are poor soils containing slate, limestone and clay. These conditions naturally limit yields and contribute to a higher concentration and aromatic intensity in the grapes. The vineyards are farmed gently, with an emphasis on respect for nature.

Ageing:
The wine ferments in stainless steel tanks to preserve its clean fruity character, and then partly ages in larger French oak barrels (approx. 300–500 l), while the other part remains in stainless steel. After approximately 8–10 months the two components are blended before bottling. This method of ageing allows the freshness and fruitiness of the varieties to be preserved, while also giving the wine a subtle structure, light spiciness and overall complexity without a pronounced influence of wood.

Taste and aroma:
The nose shows notes of red and dark fruit, such as strawberries, raspberries and blackberries, complemented by light spicy nuances. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied, fresh and smooth, with fine tannin and balanced acidity. The finish is clean, fruity and elegant.

Tasting notes:
The recommended serving temperature is 14–16 °C. The wine pairs well with red meat, grilled vegetables, pasta, tapas or semi-matured cheeses, and thanks to its balance is also suitable for drinking on its own.
