Aromas of Granny Smith apples dominate against a backdrop of red fruit, where strawberry especially stands out. On the palate it is fruity, fresh and mineral, with a creamy, well-integrated acidity. Overall it is lively, balanced, rounded and elegant.
It is great with light dishes, such as salads, seafood, grilled fish, pasta or rice dishes. It also goes well with tapas in the form of soft cheeses. Thanks to its refreshing character it is ideal for summer days.
AT Roca is a family winery that focuses on white and sparkling wines in the D.O. Penedès area. Their philosophy is to make wine by hand from local varieties according to traditional methods, with an emphasis on environmental sustainability.
Grape variety: 50% Macabeu and 50% Garnatxa Negra
Vineyard:
The vines are grown organically, with an emphasis on respect for nature and terroir. The harvest is done by hand. The Macabeu and Garnacha Negra varieties come from a total of 20 plots around Sant Sebastia dels Gorgs (Costers d'Ordal), which lie at an altitude of between 220 and 340 metres on limestone and gravel soils.
Production and ageing:
The Macabeu is pressed directly, cold and without destemming, while the Garnatxa Negra is macerated for several hours together with the skins.
The base wine ages 7 months in stainless-steel tanks. The secondary fermentation is carried out with concentrated must from the winery's own vineyards, with a minimum ageing period of 20 months on the lees in the bottle.
Taste and aroma:
The aroma reveals notes of red fruit (such as strawberries and raspberries) and grapefruit, complemented by delicate pastry nuances resulting from the long ageing on the lees. In the mouth the wine is fresh, mineral, with a pleasantly fine mousse and balanced acidity, giving it a refreshing quality. It has a smooth, elegant finish that is ideal for various occasions.
Tasting notes:
Serve chilled at 7°C. It is great with light dishes, such as salads, seafood, grilled fish, pasta or rice dishes. It also goes well with tapas in the form of soft cheeses. Thanks to its refreshing character it is ideal for summer days.
