D.O. Rioja/Muga 0.75l
Muga 2022 is built primarily around Tempranillo, which makes up around 70% of the blend and gives the wine its characteristic structure, fruitiness and elegance. It is complemented by around 20% Garnacha, which brings juiciness, roundness and a softer fruit character, while a smaller proportion of Mazuelo and Graciano (around 10% combined) contributes higher acidity, spiciness and overall complexity to the wine.
This traditional blend of varieties is typical of the Rioja region and makes it possible to create a harmonious, balanced wine that combines fruit freshness, firm structure and subtle spiciness. Each variety plays its part here, and together they create an elegant whole with good ageing potential as well as great drinkability even at a younger age.

Muga 2022 comes from the traditional family winery Bodegas Muga, based in the D.O.Ca. Rioja area in Spain. It is one of the classic representatives of the Rioja style, combining traditional methods (such as fermentation in oak vats) with a modern approach to purity and elegance of the wine.
Vineyard:
The grapes come from vineyards around the town of Haro in the Rioja Alta area, protected by the Sierra Cantabria and Montes Obarenes mountain ranges. The soils are predominantly clay-limestone, giving the wine structure, minerality and ageing potential. The 2022 vintage was warmer, with earlier grape ripening, which shows in a more pronounced fruitiness.
Grape varieties:
The wine is a traditional Rioja blend: 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, 7% Mazuelo, 3% Graciano, which together create a harmony between fruitiness, structure and spiciness.
Production:
The harvest is done by hand and the grapes are carefully sorted. Fermentation takes place in oak vats, a typical hallmark of Bodegas Muga, allowing better integration of the wine's structure. This is followed by ageing for approximately 22 months in oak barrels (around 90% French, 10% American oak), after which the wine is traditionally fined with egg whites and further ages for at least 9 months in bottle before release.
Taste and aroma:
On first nosing, the wine captivates with its clean, elegant aromatics, in which notes of red cherries, raspberries and ripe plums intertwine with subtle hints of vanilla, cocoa and sweet spice from ageing in oak. There are also light touches of herbs and forest undergrowth, adding complexity to the wine. On the palate the wine is harmonious and juicy, medium-full bodied, with silky tannins and fresh acidity that beautifully balances the fruitiness. The finish is long, elegant and gently spicy, with a pleasant aftertaste of fruit and subtle wood.
Food pairing:
Thanks to its balance, fresh acidity and fine tannins, the wine is very versatile at the table. It goes wonderfully with beef steaks, roast lamb, pork dishes or traditional stews, where it underlines the flavour of the meat and sauces. It also pairs excellently with grilled vegetables, charcuterie or tapas, making it an ideal wine for sharing at the table. Thanks to its elegance it also holds its own alongside mature cheeses such as Manchego or Comté.
For the best experience it is recommended to serve the wine at a temperature of around 16 °C and, if you like, decant it briefly to let its aromatics and flavour complexity fully develop.
