The Marañones wine from Bodega Marañones is a dry red wine that faithfully reflects the granite terroir and mesoclimatic conditions of the vineyards in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, in the Sierra de Gredos mountains.
It is made from 100% Garnacha, from vines 50–70 years old, growing on sandy, granitic soils at higher altitude.
This combination gives the wine mineral depth, gentle fruitiness and an elegant structure. The character of the wine is defined by pure aromas of red fruit, herbal and aromatic notes and a pleasant, well-balanced acidity, which together with supple tannins creates a harmonious, long finish, reflecting the authenticity of the winemaking site.
Marañones wine is a dry red wine that represents a pure expression of the terroir of the family winery Bodega Marañones and the vineyards in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, in the Spanish Vinos de Madrid region.
Grape variety: 100% Garnacha Tinta. A traditional Spanish variety which, thanks to its adaptation to granitic soils and high altitudes, gives the wine a pure, fruity and mineral profile.
Vineyard: The vines, aged 50-70 years, lie more than 800 m above sea level on slopes above the valley, where the geology includes various types of granite: white, brown and pink, providing excellent drainage and mineral expression. The sandy-textured soils and mountain climate contribute to balanced grape ripening and support organic and environmentally sensitive viticulture. The vines are trained in the traditional goblet (bush) form, which contributes to low yields and quality flavour.
Ageing: The grapes are hand-harvested into small crates and fermented using native yeasts in large French oak tanks and stainless steel tanks, with pigeage for colour and structure extraction. The wine is aged for approximately 15 months on its own lees in a combination of foudre, oak and concrete vessels, which adds complexity and texture without suppressing freshness and fruit character.
Aroma and taste: In the glass, the wine presents a pronounced aroma of red fruit such as cherries and raspberries, delicate herbal and spicy notes, complemented by mineral depth and a medium-full structure. The taste is elegant and harmonious, with pleasant acidity and well-integrated tannins that give length and balance. The recommended serving temperature is 15–16 °C for the aromas and structure to fully unfold.
Food pairing: This wine pairs wonderfully with grilled lamb, roasted game, hearty stews or matured cheeses. It is also excellent with treasures of Spanish cuisine, which bring out its fruitiness and mineral undertone.
