Jamon Iberico de Bellota

Jamón Iberico de Bellota is the highest quality and most expensive ham not only in Spain, but in the whole world. To qualify for the 'bellota' label, the Iberian pig must be free-range and must graze freely in an oak grove where it feeds exclusively on acorns and herbs. Before the montanera period, the pig must weigh around 100 kg. At the end of the montanera it must have put on at least 46 kg more. It is generally a requirement to have at least two hectares of paddock for each animal. Some companies like Joselito have even stricter conditions. Each animal has to gain more weight and even has 4 hectares of oak woodland, which provides enough food for each animal.
