Grape variety: predominantly Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) with a small proportion of Garnacha, at the enologist's discretion, giving the wine an intense fruity character as well as a subtle structural component.
Vineyard:
The vineyards from which Flor de Pingus 2023 comes are the heart of the entire Dominio de Pingus project and the key to the character of this wine. The grapes grow mainly around the village of La Horra in Ribera del Duero, on plots with sandy-clay and calcareous soil, which provides optimal drainage and supports deep root development. The Tempranillo vines are low-yielding and carefully tended, ensuring maximum concentration of aromas and mineral depth in the grapes. The vineyards are managed organically and biodynamically, with minimal intervention and hand selection of grapes.
Low yields and high vine density, together with pronounced differences between day and night temperatures, give the wine a unique complexity, elegance and potential for long ageing.
Ageing:
The wine aged in wooden barrels and large oak tanks, with approximately 10–15% of the wine ageing in new French oak and the rest in used wood, allowing a harmonious combination of fruit and subtle wood notes. Part of the wine spent up to 12 months in large-volume oak tanks (around 2000 l) and the total ageing time is around 8–12 months, giving the wine a polished structure and a natural balance between fruit, tannins and acidity.
Taste and aroma:
A pronounced flavour, combining fullness and elegance into a perfectly balanced whole. On the palate, intense fruity notes of ripe red cherries, plums and lightly sweet blackberries first appear, which gradually develop into sophisticated mineral and floral nuances reminiscent of violets and delicate forest herbs. It is ideal for pairing with dishes of medium to higher-end gastronomy.
