One of the finest rums in the world is made in the small town of Zacapa in eastern Guatemala. The rum is made from sugar cane and aged using the Solera system at high altitude (above 2,300 metres) in several types of barrique barrels that previously held sherry and bourbon. This gives it its distinctive, unmistakable aroma. Zacapa Centenario is made from rums aged 6 to 23 years, which are carefully selected and then blended. The rum is known for its delicately fruity flavour with hints of grapes, raisins and brandy. Notes of vanilla, chocolate, almonds and toasted, spicy tones can also be detected.
