Xoriguer, Mahon, gin, 1l

A cult gin from the town of Mahón on Menorca. Xoriguer is one of the few gins in the world (alongside Plymouth) to hold the geographical indication "Gin de Menorca". The gin was originally produced on Menorca during the British occupation in the early 18th century. British soldiers used it to remind themselves of the traditions of home. Xoriguer is the result of distilling high-quality wine alcohol together with select juniper from the island's mountainous areas and other herbs, whose origin and identity are very carefully guarded. Only members of the Pons family know exactly which herbs, and how many, are added during the distillation process. Interestingly, wood is still used as fuel for the distillation. Tradition is what best captures the essence of Xoriguer gins. At the end of the production process, Xoriguer is stored in wooden barrique barrels.
