Valbuena 5° is an authentic red wine from the Ribera del Duero region, which can be described as the essence of the Tempranillo variety (Tinto Fino). A small amount of Merlot variety is added to the wine to complete its harmony, its proportion varying each year depending on how the wine evolves and the decision of the head oenologist.
The grapes used for Valbuena come from very interesting vineyards that stretch along the foothills of the mountains, where relatively large amounts of rainwater flow down, contributing to the formation of distinctive limestone soil with a variety of unusual substrates and layers.
The wine ages for a total of five years combining oak barrels and bottle, giving it depth, structure and a long ageing potential.
On the palate it is concentrated yet delicate and balanced, with notes of dark fruit, plums and blackberries, complemented by spicy and gently woody nuances. It comes across as very elegant, with smooth tannins and a long, harmonious finish, making it a wine suited both to exceptional gastronomic experiences and to cellaring for many years.

An authentic red wine from Spain, D.O. Ribera del Duero, representing a pure and precise expression of the Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) variety. The wine is considered the essence of this region's style and combines the power, elegance and longevity typical of the Vega Sicilia winery. The 2020 vintage was marked by specific climatic conditions and careful work in the vineyard. The harvest was done by hand from 21 September to 5 October, into 12 kg crates. The wine is characterised as delicate, elegant, subtle, yet at the same time rich and deep. It has an ageing potential of more than 25 years.

The proportion of Merlot is adjusted each year to the character of the vintage and the decision of the oenologist, in order to preserve the wine's harmony.

Vineyard:
The grapes come from approximately 210 ha of vineyards at an altitude of 720–930 m. The average age of the vines is around 35 years. The soils are predominantly calcareous with various substrates formed by erosion and colluvial layers, giving the wine structure, minerality and complexity.
Production and ageing:
Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks using native yeasts. The wine then ages for a total of 5 years combining time spent in various types of vessels, French and American oak barrels (including 225 l barriques) and large wooden vats, followed by time in bottle. This long ageing process is a defining feature of Valbuena 5°, from which the wine takes its name.
Taste and aroma:
The wine has a deep ruby colour. Its aromatics feature notes of dark fruit (plums, blackberries, blackcurrant), complemented by delicate spicy nuances, hints of cedar and noble wood. On the palate it is concentrated, balanced and very elegant, with finely integrated tannins and a long, structured finish. The character of the wine is harmonious, precise and complex.
Food pairing:
The recommended serving temperature is around 18 °C. The wine pairs beautifully with beef steaks, lamb, game, roasted meats and medium-aged to mature hard cheeses, which enhance its complexity without overpowering its elegance. Thanks to its harmony and depth, it also holds its own as an accompaniment to more sophisticated gastronomic dishes.
