Vega Sicilia, Único Reserva Especial, D.O. Ribera del Duero, red wine, 0.75l
Vega Sicilia Único Reserva Especial is a unique non-vintage red wine from the Ribera del Duero region.
It pays tribute to the traditional production process in which the best wines from different vintages are combined. This blending process brings incredible balance and an unrepeatable flavour.
Historically, some small wineries in Spain produced two types of wine: one for the current year and another without a specific vintage for Reserva Especial (a blend of the best vintages from the oldest vineyards). Only the very best vintages of Único are used to produce Reserva Especial.
Reserva Especial is therefore the highest-quality wine.
In the glass it offers a rich palette of aromas of blackcurrant, plums, cedar, tobacco, balsamic tones and delicate spice. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep, with elegant tannins and balanced acidity.
The combination of several vintages brings a harmonious, sophisticated and very long finish, typical of the best selections of Único.

Único Reserva Especial 2025 is a non-vintage red wine from the Ribera del Duero region, created through the traditional process of blending the best wines from selected vintages. The 2025 edition is created specifically from 2011, 2012 and 2013.
This process brings incredible balance, complexity and character, unique to this prestigious range. Only the highest-quality vintages of Único are used, resulting in a wine of exceptional quality.
Grape variety:
Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) – the main base of the wine

Vineyard:
The grapes come from carefully selected vineyards with an average age of around 36 years, some plots (e.g. Ontañón) having been planted as far back as 1910. In total, the winery owns around 140 ha of vineyards around the Duero river, with soils of various types (limestone, sandstone, basalt), which contribute to the wine's distinct minerality and character. The vineyards are cultivated with regard to soil composition and climatic conditions, ensuring optimal ripening of the grapes. The harvest is extremely selective, with the grapes hand-picked and transported in small 12 kg boxes to preserve their freshness and quality.
Production and ageing:
Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in large wooden vats using indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation takes place in smaller oak barrels, after which the wine ages in various types of barrique barrels of French and American oak for several years and then for at least a further 3 years in the bottle.
This long and careful ageing process creates a wine of incredible complexity, balanced tannins and an ageing potential of up to 60 years.
Taste and aroma:
Único Reserva Especial 2025 is a wine of extraordinary depth and layering, the result of combining several great vintages.
On the nose, tones of ripe blackcurrant, blackberries and plums gradually open up, complemented by subtle balsamic nuances, cedar, tobacco and a hint of liquorice. There are also tones of sweet spice, cocoa, dark chocolate and a gently smoky undertone resulting from the long ageing in oak.
On the palate the wine is full-bodied, structured and highly complex, yet perfectly balanced. The tannins are silky, finely integrated and give the wine a noble character. The acidity is fresh, lending the wine energy and long life.
The finish is exceptionally long, elegant and harmonious, with gradually fading tones of dark fruit, spice and noble wood.
Food pairing:
Thanks to its complexity and structure, this wine is ideal with bold, full-bodied dishes. It pairs wonderfully with roast lamb, beef steak, game or slow-braised meats with a red wine reduction. It also goes excellently with truffle dishes, mushroom ragout or delicate game dishes. It works very well with mature hard cheeses too (such as manchego or zamorano), where its structure and length beautifully balance the intensity of the cheese.
Thanks to its elegance and harmony, this wine is suitable not only for rich cuisine but also as a tasting experience in its own right on festive occasions.
