Pago de los Capellanes Crianza 2022 comes from the renowned family winery Pago de los Capellanes, based in the village of Pedrosa de Duero in the province of Burgos, in the very heart of the Spanish wine region of D.O. Ribera del Duero. The winery is known for its precise vineyard work, low yields and its emphasis on expressing the terroir in every vintage.

The 2022 vintage in Ribera del Duero was characterised by a warm and dry growing season, with very good ripeness of the grapes. The result is wines with pronounced fruit, good concentration, balanced acidity and fine, ripe tannins, which are approachable already in their youth but also have potential for further ageing.

Grape variety: 100% Tempranillo (Tinto Fino), the traditional and dominant variety of the Ribera del Duero region.

Vineyard: The grapes come from selected vineyards around Pedrosa de Duero, La Horra and Gumiel del Mercado, with vines averaging around 30–35 years of age. The vineyards lie at an altitude of approximately 800–900 metres above sea level, on clay-limestone, stony soils, which support the wine's structure, elegance and minerality.

Production and ageing: Hand harvesting is followed by careful grape selection, brief cold maceration and controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation takes place naturally. The wine then ages for around 12 months in French oak barrels (300 l), which gives it depth, complexity and a subtly spicy character while preserving its fruit purity.

Taste and aroma: The aroma is dominated by ripe red and black fruit such as cherries, blackberries and plums, complemented by delicate notes of vanilla, sweet spice, cocoa and a light touch of wood. On the palate the wine is medium-to-full bodied, harmonious and elegant, with smooth, well-integrated tannins, fresh acidity and a long, clean finish.

Food pairing: Recommended serving temperature 16–18 °C. It goes excellently with grilled and roasted meat, lamb, beef steaks, game, pasta with meat sauce or with medium-matured cheeses.
