Pago Capellanes, Picón, D.O. Ribera del Duero, red wine, 0.75l
Pago de los Capellanes El Picón 2018 is a unique wine from the small, carefully selected El Picón vineyard, which is one of the winery's oldest and most valuable plots in the Ribera del Duero region.
This wine is produced only in exceptional vintages, from very low yields and with maximum care in both the vineyard and the cellar, giving it depth, character and great ageing potential.
El Picón is a wine intended for lovers of bold, complex and elegant red wines, which offer something new and a long-lasting experience with every bottle opened. Ideal for celebratory occasions, cellar collections or shared tastings.
On the palate El Picón is an intense and harmonious wine. Its aroma brings together ripe red and black forest fruit, followed by balsamic and spicy tones from long ageing in oak barrels. On the palate the wine is deeply structured, with lively acidity and velvety tannins, leading to a long and very persistent finish, where fruit intertwines with hints of leather, cocoa and delicate spice.
It is a wine that shines with game, roasted red meat or aged cheeses, but its complexity also lets it stand on its own as a tasting experience.

The Pago de los Capellanes El Picón wine comes from the selected Finca El Picón vineyard, one of the oldest and most valuable plots of the Pago de los Capellanes winery, located in the village of Pedrosa de Duero in the D.O. Ribera del Duero region. El Picón represents the traditional Ribera del Duero style, with an emphasis on terroir, low yields and precise vineyard work, resulting in a bold and elegant wine with great ageing potential.
Vintage 2018: This vintage is characterised by intense grape ripeness and a harmonious structure, giving the wine depth, balanced acidity and well-integrated tannins. The result is a medium- to full-bodied wine, with complex aromatics and a long finish, that reflects well both the character of the soil and the climatic contrasts of the region.
Awards:
• Decanter World Wine Awards 2023 – Silver Medal (90 points) for the 2018 vintage
Grape variety: 100% Tempranillo (Tinto Fino), the classic variety of the Ribera del Duero region, expressed through rich red and black fruit and structure.
Vineyard: The El Picón plot covers approximately 1.6 ha, with a clay-loam soil with gravel, and thanks to a low yield it produces very concentrated and balanced grapes.
Production and ageing: After hand harvesting, the grapes rest in the cold and then undergo cold maceration and fermentation with native yeasts. The wine undergoes spontaneous malolactic fermentation and ages for around 22 months in French oak barrels, after which it is racked four times and bottled without filtration or fining. El Picón also spends several years in the bottle before release, to reach its full balance.
Taste and aroma: The nose is intense and complex, with tones of red and black forest fruit, balsamic notes and spice. On the palate the wine is deep, elegant and harmonious, with fine tannins, balanced acidity and a long, complete finish, that lingers long after the first sip.
Food pairing: The recommended serving temperature is 16–18 °C. El Picón pairs excellently with game, grilled or roasted red meat, braised dishes or aged cheeses, where its structure and complexity come through.
