Oxer Bastegieta, Iraun, D.O. Rioja, white wine, 0.75l

A dry white wine from the D.O. Rioja region, made from a blend of varieties - 80% Viura, 10% Calagraño and the remaining 10% Malvasía, Maturana Blanca and Garnacha Blanca. Part of the vineyards were planted in 1920 in the town of El Villar (Rioja Alavesa) at an altitude of 600 metres on clay-sandy soil. Fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks using the winery's own yeasts and finishes in amphorae and 500l French oak barrels, where it remains for 12 months.  The idea behind the 2018 white Iraun is to make a Viura with freshness and finesse, aged in oak, without being overwhelmed by wood and creaminess.   You can enjoy the aroma of white fruit, citrus fruits, sweet spice and a floral background. In the mouth it shows acidity and a wonderful minerality that gives it an incredibly long finish. "Iraun" comes from the Basque language. It is a small tribute from Oxer to his mother tongue, a language that despite history and its hardships has remained strong. It is considered one of the oldest languages in the world. The label depicts "Akelarre" worshipping "Ouroboros", a serpent from Basque mythology that bites its own tail and refers to the fact that in the beginning there is the end.
