La Higuera is the Spanish word for the biblical fig tree, which was cultivated from Asia all the way across the Mediterranean region. Its fruit - the fig - was one of the most sought-after delicacies across Mediterranean cultures throughout human history. The fig is significant not only for its flavour, but also for its exceptional nutritional properties.
It was a favourite food of Plato, in fact it is known as the fruit of philosophers. La Higuera is a family business founded in 1989. It is located in Extremadura, specifically in the village of Almoharín, renowned throughout Spain for its excellent figs. This region has a privileged climate that allows the cultivation of a unique variety of fig called "calabacita", characterised by its ripeness and wonderful sweetness.
