Eulogio Pomares, Pedraneira, D.O. Rias Baixas, white wine, 0.75l

An exciting new addition to Eulogio's celebrated Albariño Rias Baixas range. 'Pedraneira' comes from a small plot located closest to the coast, named after the small cove in front of the vineyard. The vineyard's roots are so long and old that they now reach right into the sea. Whether this adds even more salinity to the overall wine is something one can only debate. One thing is certain, though: this is a fantastic Albariño that tastes of the seawater that crashes onto its vineyards, interwoven with delicate orchard fruit, peaches and white pepper. Harvesting is done by hand and grape selection takes place on the plot. The grapes are destemmed and subjected to a long, gentle pressing, yielding a low quantity of must, which, after light settling, ferments spontaneously in a 2,500-litre French oak foudre, and the wine remains on the lees until spring without bâtonnage. The wine undergoes complete spontaneous malolactic fermentation. After bottling, Pedraneira remains in storage for 3 months seeking perfect integration. At the end of this journey lies a distinctive, pleasantly bright and incredibly mineral wine that goes wonderfully with seafood, tapas and other Spanish dishes.
