Eulogio Pomares is one of the leading names in Galician winemaking. His journey as a winemaker and grower is closely tied to the Albariño grape, and is characterised by a pioneering and innovative vision, faithful to an age-old family tradition.  For Eulogio Pomares, any idea can become the basis of a new wine. The Eulogio Pomares winery dates back to 1920, when Ernesto Zárate began producing great Albariños in the heart of the Salnés valley. The third Zárate generation now works towards the same goal as the founder. This proven work has earned them a place among the world's hundred best wineries according to Wine & Spirit magazine in 2014.  The grapes come from the Castiñeiro plot, a small 0.3-hectare vineyard inside the tiny village of Aldea do Monte in Rías Baixas. The vineyard faces south, with 45-year-old vines planted in a mix of mineral-rich granite and decomposed sandy soil.  A white wine made from grapes from layered vines grown on less fertile soil, fermented and aged in open chestnut barrels. A wine with remarkable concentration and depth, richer and more textured than a classic Albariño, balanced by delicious acidity and beautiful freshness.
