Grape variety:
The wine is made from 100% Tempranillo, the iconic red variety of the Rioja region. Tempranillo is prized for its elegance, fine tannins and ability to express the terroir of individual vineyards. In Artadi's rendition, it offers a pure, authentic expression with an emphasis on fruitiness, energy and a balance between structure and freshness.
Vineyard:
The grapes come from vineyards situated around the village of Laguardia in the Rioja Alavesa region. The vineyards lie at an altitude of approximately 400–700 metres, on poorer clay-limestone soils, which give the wine a firm structure and mineral character. The combination of higher altitude and marked differences between day and night temperatures allows the grapes to ripen more slowly, which contributes to preserving freshness and aromatic complexity.
Harvest and ageing:
The harvest is done by hand with rigorous selection of the grapes. After gentle destemming, fermentation follows in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, to preserve the purity of the fruity expression. The wine then ages for approximately 12 months in French oak barrels, which gives it a delicate spiciness, depth and harmoniously integrated tannin, without overpowering the natural character of the variety.
Taste and aroma:
In the glass the wine has a deep ruby colour with violet hints. The aroma is intense and elegant. Dominated by notes of dark cherries, blackberries and plums, complemented by hints of violets, liquorice and delicate spice. Ageing in oak brings subtle touches of vanilla, tobacco and a light toastiness. On the palate the wine is juicy, structured and at the same time very balanced. Fine, ripe tannins together with refreshing acidity create a long, harmonious finish.
Tasting notes:
A modern, precisely crafted red wine that superbly represents the contemporary style of the Rioja region with an emphasis on terroir. It pairs excellently with roasted and grilled meats, lamb, beef steaks, game or mature cheeses. Thanks to its elegance and balance, however, it is also pleasant to enjoy on its own.
