Skladem
Artadi El Carretil is a red wine made from Tempranillo grapes from an old vineyard of 5.6 hectares, consisting of three parcels planted 80, 50 and 40 years ago. It is located in the municipality of Laguardia, 500 metres above sea level, on poor soils of calcareous clay composition with a large proportion of active limestone.
The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in 15 kg boxes, with the selection being carried out directly in the vineyard. Once in the cellar, they undergo a 24-48 hour cold maceration and are then fermented with indigenous yeasts in open wooden vats for 10-12 days with daily treading and a little pumping. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels where the grapes remain for 9 months.
El Carretil is perfectly balanced, showing vibrant fruit along with expressive and sophisticated tannins. It combines ripe flavour profiles with the precision of mineral characteristics, the projection of fine tannins and the all-encompassing structure of a delicate wine.
Serve it at 16 °C with meat dishes or game.
Bodegas Artadi was founded in Laguardia in 1985 as 'Cooperative Cosecheros Alaves' under the leadership of Juan Carlos Lopez de Lacalle. It was an association of a group of growers who wanted to work together on a business project based on the wine wealth of the La Rioja Alavesa region. They wanted to prove that carbonic maceration can also produce great wines, and they succeeded.
The history of Artadi is linked to the memory and stories of the people who helped to found the winery and make it what it is today. Based on passion and respect for the land and the vineyards.
