This 100% Monastrell is made from organically grown grapes from vineyards inland from Alicante on the south-east coast of Spain. Here a really hot climate prevails with temperatures often exceeding 35 °C and very sporadic rainfall. This wine is intense, full-bodied and dark, but with a brightness that makes it easy to drink.

However, thanks to the altitude of these vineyards and the dramatic daily temperature fluctuations, the fruit retains its acidity, finesse and delicacy. The soils are predominantly calcareous, sandy, gravelly, pebbly and low in organic matter, which forces the vines to work hard.

The grapes are harvested by hand, fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and aged for 6-8 months in the same tanks before bottling.

The resulting wine is deep black-purple with a delicate floral aroma overlaid with dried fig flesh. The surprisingly medium-bodied palate delivers sweet blueberry, red currant and a bit of tobacco licorice, while the acidity keeps the wine fresh and invigorating. There's a gentle grip, a touch of pepper on the finish.

Al-Muvedre pairs well with dark meat, game, lamb, stews with tomatoes or pasta.
