Artadi El Pisón is a wine made from Tempranillo grapes from a vineyard planted in 1945 in Laguardia, at an altitude of 480 metres above sea level, on deep clay-calcareous soils. This vineyard has been under organic viticulture certification since the 2016 vintage. The average yield is 3500 kg/ha.
The grapes are harvested by hand into 15kg crates and picked directly in the vineyard. Once transported to the winery, the grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts in open wooden vats for 10-12 days, with daily treading and some pumping. Malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels where it is aged for 12 months.

Bodegas Artadi was founded in Laguardia in 1985 as 'Cooperative Cosecheros Alaves' under the leadership of Juan Carlos Lopez de Lacalle. It was an association of a group of growers who wanted to work together on a business project based on the wine wealth of the La Rioja Alavesa region. They wanted to prove that carbonic maceration can also produce great wines, and they succeeded.
The history of Artadi is linked to the memory and stories of the people who helped to found the winery and make it what it is today. Based on passion and respect for the land and the vineyards.
