Clos Mogador

René Barbier III comes from a family of French winemakers, although he was born in Tarragona and grew up in Catalonia. He came with his wife, Isabelle Meyer and their young children to Priorat, and found a wine-growing region that had been neglected for many years, although there were excellent wines such as 1974 from Cellers de Scala Dei. This wine caught his attention and eventually he was able to assemble a group to create one wine together in the same cellar, although it was issued under different brands. Initially, there were 10 different brands that transformed into the top five that are now visible. The irony is that despite defining wine for the region at 12.5% of alcohol, it did not meet DOQ certification, since the minimum for red wine is 13%.

In addition to their namesake Clos Mogador, with time they released the white wine Nelin, as well as another red called Manyetes. Clos Mogador was one of the first wines to win the "Vi de Finca" in Catalonia, which means it has been produced for more than ten years from the same vineyard.

The name of the winery comes from "Les Gens de Mogador", which records the rise and fall of the family of Avignon in France to an imaginary manor called Mogador and closely coincides with the family history of Barbier.
