Marañones is a red wine from Vinos de Madrid, produced by the Marañones winery. This wine is made only from the Grenache grape variety.
The grapes used for Marañones come from three different plots located on north-facing slopes at an altitude of approximately 750-850 metres. The vineyards are approximately 50 and 70 years old and are farmed organically.
After harvesting and transporting the grapes to the winemaking facilities, the grapes are incubated and left to macerate in the cold. They then undergo fermentation using local yeasts in 33 hectolitre French oak barrels, during which pigeon fermentation takes place to maximise juice extraction.
Before final maturation, malolactic fermentation takes place in used 500 litre barrels. The Marañones then rest for a year in the same barrels used for fermentation. It is then bottled without stabilisation, clarification or filtering.
